How is the reading time calculated?
Reading time uses 225 words per minute, the usual pace for adult silent reading, and rounds up to the next second. Speaking time uses 130 words per minute.
What counts as a word?
A word is any run of characters separated by whitespace. Hyphenated words count as one, and punctuation is ignored when counting.
Are emoji and non-Latin characters counted correctly?
Yes. The counter works on Unicode code points rather than bytes, so emoji and characters outside the Latin alphabet are counted once each.
