Questions about json formatter & validator

Why does my JSON fail to validate?

The most common causes are trailing commas, single quotes instead of double quotes, unquoted keys and comments. The error panel points at the exact line and column so you can jump straight to the problem.

What does sorting keys do?

It walks the parsed object and orders every set of keys alphabetically. The structure and the values stay exactly the same — only the order of the keys changes, which makes large payloads far easier to diff.

Can I format a very large JSON file?

Yes. Parsing happens in your browser with the built-in JSON engine, so a multi-megabyte payload is handled without a round-trip to any server.
