Is minifying safe for production?
Minification is safe for HTML and CSS. For JavaScript, comment and whitespace stripping is safe as long as you do not rely on automatic semicolon insertion — use a proper bundler for production builds.
How much smaller does the file get?
It depends on the source. Heavily indented files often shrink by 40 to 60 percent. Already-minified files change very little, which is a quick way to check whether a file is production-ready.
Which comments are removed from JavaScript?
Line comments and block comments are removed, but a comment marker inside a string literal is left untouched, so regular expressions and URLs survive the process.
